AIRO's Background

Afghanistan Independent Rehabilitation Organization (AIRO) is a non-governmental, non-profit and nonpolitical organization. AIRO was established in 2003 with a mission to provide emergency aids and humanitarian assistance to Afghan population. It has been registered with the Ministry of Economy with the number 276 on 28/12/2005 of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. It promotes and provides development and humanitarian services to the Afghan people, especially to those who are living in rural areas of the country. AIRO endeavors to reach the most disadvantaged groups in Afghan society, often under very difficult circumstances. Among those with whom AIRO is working are poor families, men, women, children, youth, disabled, the unemployed and the uneducated, returning refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), as well as a variety of community-based organizations.

AIRO’s mission is to contribute to peace building, self-reliance, and resilience, equality & equity, poverty alleviation, and sustainable growth by strengthening livelihood, Community Based Education (CBE), peace building, justice, and serving people in emergencies.

Our Goal

The main purpose of this organization as a non-governmental and non-profit social Organization is to provide voluntary and humanitarian services to people in need in society, regardless of political, ethnic, racial, linguistic, regional, etc. affiliation, which has the following purposes: Poverty and vulnerability reduction.  Fair distribution of resources.  Facilitate reliable social and economic development.  Ensuring the fundamental rights of citizens.

With the ultimate goal of the eradication of poverty from Afghanistan, AIRO has increasingly focused its interventions on contributing to a more productive and sustainable livelihood, Community Based Education (CBE), peace building, human rights, and justice. AIRO has come to include community peace building as a further focus of its activities in recent years.

In order to promote long-term sustainable development at the community level, AIRO employs a holistic and strongly people-centered approach in delivering projects. This means working across sectors with all community stakeholders while prioritizing the rights and needs of the poor and needy residents. It also means strengthening the participation of our target groups in the planning, implementation and monitoring of AIRO projects and the promotion of local ownership of both the development process and results. In order to maximize impact and scope, we also make full use of national NGO networks and will work in partnership with other NGOs to create added value.

Currently, AIRO is implementing projects in various aspects of Vocational Training and community-based in the provinces; Kandahar, Zabul, Helmand, and Uruzgan.
